Is it really July 29th?!? Already?!? Where has the time gone? There's no excuse to not updating the blog except that we have had a busy month and Momma is tired! And, I can't say it has been the best month of July, but hasn't been the worst either.
This is going to be the abridged version of an update. And I truly hope to type up my hand written notes from a trip home over the 4th that none of us will probably ever forget.
It actually starts the last week of June. The stress and nerves of packing for an 18 hour road trip with two kids under the age of 5 wasn't enough. So our refrigerator had to go out, too. Which actually was a good thing, because had it gone out while on vacation - that would have been a total MESS, so at least we were able to clean it out and "borrow" some space in our gracious neighbor's freezer for two weeks! In that same week, Kris was asked to apply for a job and interviewed!! So, something that exciting kind of threw us for a loop - as the road trip home was going to be the end of a 9 year stretch - and the start of a new routine!
But, we still had the road trip up and Kris' trip to the Grand Canyon to get through first.
So we left for Illinois on the following Tuesday. Kris had accepted his new job. By this day we were all ready to get out of town, and left the driveway after work by 6 pm. This was a good start to the trip. Day two went okay as well, though it rained all the way up to Chattanooga. But, we made it to Nashville to drop off baby stuff to Kris' sister who was ready to give birth to a little boy any day! It was a quick stop, but a needed hour break from the car. Only 6-7 hours left and I was bound and determined to get home!
Around 6 pm, I received a text from one of Karmann's daycare buddy's mom informing me that two kids in her class were sent home with lice ------WHAT!?? Great! I won't go into great details here, except I called Kris' mom and warned her and asked that she get the shampoo asap and we'd all treat each other as soon as we got in the door - I did not care how late it would be - it was happening! So we got home around 10 pm and so we did. The next day (4th of July, I might add) all I did was laundry and freak out. I'll leave it at that for now.
Friday the guys headed out to AZ and then met Keri and then headed to the Grand Canyon to hike down and stay two nights at the ranch and then hike back out. Yes, it was July 5-8th, which possibly was the hottest days of the year to hike down into a canyon. We all were worried the whole time, since cell phone service only worked on the ridge. So we wished them luck before they hiked down and prayed like crazy that we'd hear from them in two days.
So, thankfully, two days later they made it out and back to AZ. The next day they were headed back to IL, but we had news for them as well. Sarah had gone into labor. That too was a stressful situation, as she started to have toxemia and ended up being induced. Thankfully her doctor was on top of everything and by the time the guys landed from AZ, Baby Tim was born! Both Sarah, Charlie and Baby Tim were doing just fine.
But, since the baby was born a week early, Grammy and Papa wanted to meet him asap. So we left a day early to head back home. We did stop in Nashville, but due to the lice situation, we felt it best to not meet the baby. Sarah and Charlie were appreciative of that.
So to make a long story short (haha) we made it home on Saturday. Again, I spent the whole next day washing everything and cleaning the house. Thankfully, that situation is over.
This trip was definitely a trip - and not a vacation. But the memories and experiences together with family - bonding for sure!! was worth the trip. It may not have been the vacation we were planning on, but it was one we certainly will NEVER forget!
