Karmann's 1st hair - trimming

This weekend has flown by! My weekend was simply working out, skyping with family and friends, hanging out at the lot, having dinner with girl friends, shopping with my dad and Karmann, and hanging out with Kris. Kris' weekend was going to two magic games, fantasy baseball (APPA), and hanging out at the lot. Karmann's time was pretty evenly distributed between both of us, which I think she enjoyed.

As the title of this blog suggests, I did trim Karmann's bangs this morning. I don't think this counts as her first haircut, as I only trimmed a little bit so that her hair would not get stuck in her mouth or snotty nose next time! I didn't get a photo today, but will try to this week and post it.

She's feeling much better this weekend, though I think she is still working on one more tooth, as she was cranky and drooling today. But other than that, she stayed on schedule this weekend and was a little cuddly bug and silly girl as usual!

We did manage to get a family photo on the lot yesterday. This is recording the end of week 1 of construction - Enjoy!

So, as you can see in the photos, the foundation and slab was poured today! We've had good weather, but some issues with coordinating the utilities. The electrician was scheduled to put temp power on the site on Monday, but didn't show up until yesterday, and then the power company would have been there today to hook-up, but now its delayed to next week. We are hoping this will not affect the greenblock contractors for next Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed!

As I mentioned before, today is Karmann's 14 month birthday! She now has 3 molers through and 1 more coming in. We were reminiscing about our pregnancy today, as we found out some good friends are expecting, and over lunch with them we were giving them advice, etc. Not that we are experts, as we hopefully explained as a disclaimer, but it was fun to think about how freaked out we were before Karmann was born, and try to forewarn them about things that we didn't know about. Its all worth it of course!!!

Well, I'll try and keep you updated on the house, and hopefully we'll have a nice weekend and get to spend some time out doors!

Under construction

Well, no turning back now! We've passed our first inspection, and have the foundation inspection tomorrow, and concrete will be poured on Friday. Kris has been stressed to the max all week, but he is doing a great job acting as general contractor. It has not been easy! The construction industry sure does run on its own clock! The concrete guys and the plumbing guys are great, but the electrical hasn't shown-up yet - literally! So, let's hope tomorrow runs smoothly! Here's a few pictures.

Karmann is doing much better today. She is pretty much back to her silly adorable self - with a few more teeth in the back! Her thing the last couple of days has been wanting to hold the spoon and try to pick up food on it. She usually ends up just pushing it around, and then uses her hands to put it in her mouth anyway! I'm giving her total credit for trying!! Great Nannie knitted her a cute hat, which has come in handy this week as it hasn't been above 50 degrees, and is in the 30's in the morning on the way to school. I had a thick layer of ice on my windshield on Monday!! Okay - I won't complain, knowing what everyone up north is dealing with right now!! I'm very thankful I don't have to deal with snow!!!

This weekend has been pretty much all about getting Karmann feeling better. She had a high temperature Friday night, so Kris took her into the doctor Saturday morning. He said it was still due to her ears, and she had some puss on her throat, which was probably why she didn't want to drink and why she had the temperature. So we were to continue what we were doing and she'll eventually get better. And she has. She hasn't had a temperature since yesterday (it was 101.4 at the doctor's.) And she was back to her playful cute self yesterday evening. However, last night she woke up a couple of time screaming her little head off! We are pretty sure this time it is her teeth. Though the screaming was an ear full, there was not much we could do to calm her. The doctor confirmed she's getting 4 molers in at the same time. One has broken through, and she's working on the others by chewing anything she can get her hands on. So it was another sleepless night, but other than that, her fever is gone. Kris is not feeling good now, so it sounds like he might be taking tomorrow off. I just pray I don't get anything now!

Despite everything, Grandpa came to visit to see Karmann and to check out the work that's been going on at the lot. Above you'll see they've set the rails for the foundation and slab. Plan is to pour concrete by Wednesday, weather permitting.

Ta-da!!

Karmann's new word is "ta-da". I said it the other day and she repeated it so cute! So now we go back and forth saying it. She also heard Grover say it on Sesame Street this morning and she repeated it!

I'm home with little peanut today because on top of her ear infection, she now has a fever. We were all set up for "date night" at the day care where they watch the kids after hours so parents can have a date - this one was for valentine's day. Well, Kris and I had dinner and headed over to a function. Just when we got there, they called and said she woke up with a fever. So I hurried to get her as Kris got the car. She was eating, but she was on fire and her lips were sooo red. When we got home, her temp was 101.4. So, I gave her a bath, motirn, nursed her, and she went right to bed. She woke up at 1 am with a temp of 102.2. So more motrin, more nursing, but this time she wanted to stay up and play. So I was trying to comfort her and read books till about 3 am. Finally, she went down - on my chest. So she slept in our bed until about 6:30. Her fever was down to 100.4 this morning, and it finally broke around 9 am. She's napping now, though she looks to be sweating, so we shall see what it is when she wakes up. Poor little thing!

Kris is working this morning and then we are going to switch after lunch. It is nice that both of our jobs are understanding and allow us to do that.

Ear infection #3

Yesterday I picked Karmann up from the daycare, and they said they had to clean out her nose in order for her to sleep - poor baby - but I've been trying to do the same thing for weeks (she is like holding down a cat!) and haven't been able to, so thankfully they did a good job! But, because they were concerned, I called the doctor right away and took her in. Sure enough, she has another ear infection in her left ear. So, she is officially "qualified" for tubes, but we'll discuss that at her 15 month check up. For now, she's on another round of antibiotics. No fever, though, thank goodness. The doctor also discovered that she is getting 4 molers right now, so no wonder the crankiness! Still she's not quite 20 lbs.

I had a late meeting tonight, so Kris picked her up from daycare today. Apparently, she is getting a belly ache from the medicine, which the doctor warned me about. We are feeding her banana and yogurt to try and combat that, but Kris said she was really fussy before she took a nap. She woke up kind of cranky, so I nursed her and fed her dinner. She ate well, so the next challenge was giving her the medicine. Kris was at a buddy's house playing his fantasy baseball, so it was all me. Luckily, after about 5 tries, she calmed down and took the whole dose in one swig! (this is when I say she is such an angel!) Off to the tub after that - which she again is too cute playing with her squirt toys! I am starting to "understand" her babbles a little bit, like for example, tonight when I put her little monkey squirt toy in the tub she got all excited almost like she said "there's my monkey!" but of course in her own language, but it made sense to me! More and more you can tell what she is thinking. After her bath we sometimes have a few minutes of play time and tonight she was trying to stack her knock-off lego's, and when she did, she almost said "I did it!" It was too cute. Of course I praised her and she kept doing it - she's pretty smart!! After that, she was really tired, so I took her into her room, turned on her music, laid her down in bed, and she went right to sleep!! Again - angel!! Let's hope she sleeps all night again! Speaking of which, that night last week was a total fluke. Though it gives me hope that the full night of sleep is closer!

Hopefully tomorrow we will get the proof's of her photo shoot at school, so I hope to have photos of some sort next blog. For now, I am headed to bed. Next time I hope to fill you in on the construction of the house...stay tuned!

Today was informal picture day at daycare, so luckily GG had just sent Karmann a package with a few new pink valentine's day appropriate outfits! Perfect timing GG!! So Karmann got dressed up - bow and all. She totally looked like a little Minnie Mouse, but I loved it! Learning from last time, when she didn't smile a bit, I decided to get the camera out before school so hopefully she would be "warmed up". Though the format was less formal than last time, it worked! I can't wait to see the pictures, as she just ate it up in front of the photog!!

Also, while I was taking her picture at home, she decided she wanted to read her books - so I finally got a few pictures of what I was talking about in the last blog. Too cute.

Also!!! Even more exciting news, Karmann slept through the whole night last night!!!! I woke up with Kris' alarm at 5 am and freaked out that I slept all night and didn't nurse her! So of course I sent him into her room to make sure she was ok - and she was still sleeping! She woke up shortly there after, but I couldn't believe it! I hope it was not just a fluke, but I'm afraid it might be to the fact that I had a glass of wine with dinner, and maybe that helped knock her out?? You bet I had another glass tonight!! Anyway, I had to write about that, as it is very momentous!

Walking and reading

Karmann has quickly caught on to walking and you could say she's trying to run already. She loves to run down the hall as if she's hiding and then run back and we say "there she is" and she turns and runs back to do it again! It is so cute. She's also really been interested in her books. We recently removed architecture magazines from the entertainment shelves and replaced them with her books and toys. She loves to pull her books out and "read" them sitting on the floor. She can sit there for 5-10 minutes just going through all of them. I have been meaning to get a photo of her sitting there, but haven't been able to because she notices me getting the camera out and then wants to play with it! So, I'll work on that.

The past two weekends we have been up at my dad's visiting with "Uncle" Jerry who was here for the PGA show from Phoenix. Karmann really enjoyed hanging out with Grandpa and Jerry and played and played and teased them and made them giggle. Jerry missed Asher, so Karmann stepped right in! I think she'll miss him the next time she's up at dad's house!

Well, the past few weeks have been busy. And have left me to avoid updating the blog - and taking pictures. And, now that its February, I need to get back on the ball! Karmann actually has another picture day tomorrow at school, so we'll start there!

I forgot to mention that Karmann had her first boo-boo and tripped and fell and busted her lip. She didn't complain, and continued nursing just fine! It actually healed in a few days. I did happen to take a photo of her lip though - see photo above. The other is of a cute outfit that Karmann has grown into. She's finally fitting into 12 month size, so has practically a whole new wardrobe!
